A Succession Certificate is a court order under the Indian Succession Act, used only for high-value or contested assets. For a clean land sale by heirs, you want the Next of Kin plus a registered No Objection from every name on the list.

State-specific note: Every heir on the certificate must sign the sale deed, or hand over a registered NOC. Miss one signature and the deed can be challenged years later, well within the limitation period.

How to Get Legal Heir Certificate in Assam: Step-by-Step

Apply on Sewa Setu, or walk into the DC, SDO, or Circle Office. Either way, you'll need the death certificate, ID and address proofs of every heir, relationship proof, court affidavit, and land revenue receipts.
