Land area measurement in Andaman and Nicobar follows GoRT-defined standards. Square Metre is commonly used locally. Official metric units — Hectare, Are, and Square Metre — are used in Form F records.
Andaman & Nicobar land records use standard metric units — Acre, Hectare, Are, and Square Metre — as defined in the GoRT.
In Andaman & Nicobar, the Record of Rights is called Jamabandi. It is maintained in English & Hindi.
A Hectare is a standard metric unit of land area equal to 10,000 square metres or 100 ares, as defined in the GoRT.
An Are is a metric sub-unit of hectare, equal to 100 square metres. 100 Ares make 1 Hectare.
The legal framework includes: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Land Revenue and Land Reforms Regulation, 1966, Indian Forest Act, 1927, and The Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Protection of Aboriginal Tribes) Regulation, 1956.
Form F is the Record of Rights document used in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It records ownership, tenancy, and other land-related details for each survey number.
Land purchase in Andaman and Nicobar is regulated. Certain areas are restricted, and tribal lands cannot be purchased by outsiders. Non-residents may face restrictions, and specific permissions may be required depending on the location and type of land.
Set Apart land refers to land that has been reserved or allocated for specific purposes such as government use, forest conservation, or tribal welfare. This land cannot be transferred or used for private purposes.
