Land area measurement in Himachal Pradesh follows GoRT-defined standards. Kanal and Marla are the primary traditional units used in HP land records and Jamabandi. Official metric units — Hectare, Are, and Square Metre — are also used.
In Himachal Pradesh, 1 Cent is officially equivalent to 435.6 square feet (40.47 square metres), as per GoRT Section II.
Himachal Pradesh land records primarily use Kanal and Marla, and Cent, Acre, and Hectare. Kanal and Marla is the standard local subunit used in Jamabandi documents.
In Himachal Pradesh, the Record of Rights is called Jamabandi. It is maintained in Hindi.
A Hectare is a standard metric unit of land area equal to 10,000 square metres or 100 ares, as defined in the GoRT.
An Are is a metric sub-unit of hectare, equal to 100 square metres. 100 Ares make 1 Hectare.

In HP, Kacha Bigha and Pucca Bigha are different sizes. Pucca Bigha is larger (varies by district). The distinction matters in older land records. Modern HP records primarily use Kanal-Marla system.
