Land area measurement in Karnataka follows GoRT-defined standards. Guntha is the primary local sub-unit, also used across Maharashtra, Goa, AP, and Telangana. Cent is used in coastal districts (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi). Karnataka RTC (Form 9) records area in both the Acre-Guntha system (traditional, widely used) and Hectare-Are system (GoRT-mandated metric).
In Karnataka, 1 Guntha is officially equivalent to 1,089 square feet (101.17 square metres), as per GoRT Section II.
Karnataka land records primarily use Guntha, Acre, and Hectare. Guntha is the standard local subunit used in RTC (Form 9) documents. Cent is also used in coastal districts such as Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
In Karnataka, the Record of Rights is called RTC (Form 9). It is maintained in Kannada.
A Guntha is 1/40th of an Acre, equal to 1,089 sq.ft (101.17 sq.m), as defined in the GoRT. It is the primary traditional sub-unit used in Karnataka land records.

A survey sketch copy is an official diagram of a land parcel showing its boundaries, dimensions, and survey number. It is issued by the Survey, Settlement and Land Records Department and is used to verify the exact location and extent of a property.
Podi refers to the sub-division or partition of a survey number into smaller plots. When Podi is done, the original survey number is split into sub-divisions (Hissa numbers), each with its own extent and ownership details in the RTC.
E-Swathu is a Karnataka government initiative that provides property ownership certificates for sites in gram panchayat areas. It helps regularise properties that lack proper documentation and provides a government-recognised ownership record.
Pot-Kharaba refers to barren or uncultivable portions within a survey number. This land is deducted from the total extent when calculating the cultivable area in RTC records. It includes rocky terrain, water bodies, or other unusable portions.
