Land area measurement in Punjab follows GoRT-defined standards. Local units — Kanal, Marla, and Square Yard — are specific to Punjab. Standard metric units — Acre, Hectare, and Are — are used in official Jamabandi records and property registration.
In Punjab, 1 Kanal is officially equivalent to 5,445 square feet (505.86 square metres), as per GoRT Section II.
Punjab land records primarily use Kanal, Marla, and Square Yard, Acre, and Hectare. Kanal is the standard local subunit used in Jamabandi documents.
In Punjab, the Record of Rights is called Jamabandi. It is maintained in Punjabi.
A Hectare is a standard metric unit of land area equal to 10,000 square metres or 100 ares, as defined in the GoRT.
