Land area measurement in Sikkim follows GoRT-defined standards. Standard metric units — Acre, Hectare, and Are — are used in official Parcha records and property registration.
Sikkim land records use standard metric units — Acre, Hectare, Are, and Square Metre — as defined in the GoRT.
In Sikkim, the Record of Rights is called Parcha. It is maintained in Nepali.
A Hectare is a standard metric unit of land area equal to 10,000 square metres or 100 ares, as defined in the GoRT.
Land records in Sikkim are governed by: Sikkim Regulation of Transfer and Use of Lands Act 1975; Sikkim land (requisition and acquisition) Act 1989; Sikkim transfer of land (regulation) Act 2005; Sikkim regulation of transfer of land Act 2008; Sikkim land tenancy Act 2014.
