What is a Khasra number?

A Khasra number is the unique identifier for a plot of land in the Jammu & Kashmir revenue system. It's the field number assigned during the cadastral survey and is used to link your physical plot to official records.

What is an RoR and why do I need it?

RoR (Record of Rights) is the authoritative proof of land ownership in J&K. It contains three documents: Khasra (plot number), Khewat (rights holder name), and Girdawari (land use). You need it for legal transactions, disputes, and registration.

Where do I get an RoR in Jammu & Kashmir?

Visit your district Land Records office or Tehsil (block) office with proof of identity. Bring the village name and approximate location of your land. The office will provide you with the RoR for a small fee.

Is Jammu & Kashmir moving to digital records?

Yes. The UT has launched 'Aapki Zameen Aapki Nigrani' to digitize land records. However, digitization is still ongoing; some records remain paper-based. Always verify with the official Revenue Department.
