Question 1

What is the Dag number?

Accepted Answer

It's West Bengal's parcel identifier — the unique number assigned to a plot of land. Also called 'plot number' or 'survey number' locally. It appears in Khatian and property documents.

Question 2

What is the Khatian?

Accepted Answer

It's the ownership register listing all land held by one person in a village, identified by Dag number. Shows area, boundaries, and ownership.

Question 3

What's the difference between RS and LR?

Accepted Answer

RS (Revenue Survey) and LR (Land Records) are two historical survey systems used in West Bengal. Older documents may reference RS; newer ones may use LR. Banglarbhumi integrates both systems.

Question 4

How do I know if my document uses RS or LR?

Accepted Answer

Check the date on your property deed or document. Older documents tend to use RS Dag numbers. Search Banglarbhumi to cross-reference and find equivalent LR numbers.

Question 5

Are Banglarbhumi records free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All Khatian, Dag-based documents, and land records are free from Banglarbhumi (banglarbhumi.wb.gov.in). Do not pay agents for extracts.
