The Gwalior air funnel zones are the height-restricted approach corridors around Gwalior Airport, a civil enclave inside the Indian Air Force's Maharajpur Air Force Station, roughly 10 km northeast of the city at 188 metres above mean sea level. What makes Gwalior unusual is the airfield itself: it runs two parallel military runways, so the funnel doubles. Plots around Maharajpura carry a height ceiling most listings ignore. This page sets out who clears your build, how far the funnel reaches, and which corridors it crosses. This layer requires a Premium subscription on 1acre.
Most Indian airports throw one approach funnel across the land around them. Gwalior throws two. The base is the only IAF station running two operational parallel runways, 06L/24R and 06R/24L, and each casts its own restricted corridor.
The surfaces below apply to any plot sitting near that airfield.
Surface
Where it applies
What it does to your build
No-construction strip
Up to 500 m from a runway
A structure is effectively barred
Approach funnel
Off the 06/24 ends, on both strips
Height near 2 percent of distance from runway
Inner horizontal
Within about 4 km of the base
Most plots capped near 45 m
NOC radius
Within roughly 20 km of the reference point
Clearance needed at any height

Two parallel corridors mean the restricted band along the 06/24 axis is wider than at a single-runway field, and Maharajpura sits right in it. Any structure inside the radius needs a No Objection Certificate before you build. Because this is a defence airfield, defence authorities issue NOC decisions, even though AAI runs the passenger terminal. The maths is standard obstacle-limitation surface logic, but the file goes to the military desk, not the civil one. So when a Maharajpura listing sells you a plot "beside the airport," it is quietly selling you the tightest height zone in the district. Match the survey number to the funnel line before you commit.
Gwalior's real estate spreads mostly southwest of the airfield, back toward the city, which works in a buyer's favour. The further your plot sits from Maharajpur, the more height you can carry. Direction and distance, not the sales pitch, set the ceiling.
Here is how the active corridors line up against the base.
Corridor
Position relative to airfield
Height reality
Maharajpura and Airport Road
Adjacent to the base
Double-funnel exposure; tall builds unlikely to clear
Deen Dayal Nagar and Morar
A few km out, near the airport side
Verify each plot; parts sit in the inner horizontal
City Center and Thatipur
Central, well back from the runways
Usually workable; confirm the exact NOC grid
Bhind Road and Sirol Road
Peripheral growth stretches
Lower funnel risk; the 20 km net still applies
Badagaon and Tekanpur
Outer, farther from Maharajpur
Height generally free; confirm title and GDA status

The corridor buyers misjudge most is the Maharajpura and Deen Dayal Nagar side, where colonies advertise a fifteen-minute hop to the airport as a selling point. For a low home, that access is a genuine plus. The problem is anything vertical. Sitting under two overlapping approach paths, these plots face the strictest cap in Gwalior, so a bungalow clears while an apartment block stalls at the defence NOC. Buy here to live and you are usually fine. Buy planning a rental tower near the runways, and the Air Force, not the market, writes your height limit.
