Question 1

Has land acquisition for the bullet train corridor actually finished?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As of 2026, all 1,389.5 hectares required across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli have been acquired, removing what had been one of the project's biggest sources of delay in earlier years.

Question 2

Why did the Gujarat section move faster than the Maharashtra section?

Accepted Answer

Gujarat completed its land acquisition years earlier than Maharashtra, where disputes stalled progress until around 2022, giving Gujarat's stations and viaducts a substantial construction head start.

Question 3

What is a Town Planning Scheme and why does it matter near Sabarmati?

Accepted Answer

It is Gujarat's mechanism for replanning urban land, handing owners a reconfigured final plot in exchange for a land contribution toward roads and infrastructure, which can change a parcel's shape and location.

Question 4

When will any part of the bullet train actually start running?

Accepted Answer

Current targets point to India's first indigenous bullet train service beginning around August 2027 on the Surat-Vapi stretch, well ahead of the full corridor's currently projected 2028 to 2029 completion window.

Question 5

How much has the project's cost increased since it was first announced?

Accepted Answer

The original estimate was around 1.1 lakh crore rupees. By 2026, the revised estimate had grown to roughly 1.98 to 2 lakh crore rupees, reflecting delays and a shift toward indigenous manufacturing.

Question 6

What compensation applies to land formally acquired for this project?

Accepted Answer

Acquired land was compensated under the national land acquisition law's market-value-based framework, which also includes a resettlement and rehabilitation package for displaced landowners.

Question 7

Which Gujarat districts had land acquired for this corridor?

Accepted Answer

Land was acquired across eight districts, including Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, and Valsad, totalling roughly 951 hectares within Gujarat.

Question 8

Is land near the Sabarmati station automatically more valuable right now?

Accepted Answer

Not automatically. The station's role as an operational control centre and multimodal hub is a genuine growth driver, but any specific plot still needs its Town Planning Scheme and ownership status checked before that value is confirmed.
