Question 1

Is Jodhpur Airport a civilian or military airport?

Accepted Answer

Both. Jodhpur Air Force Station is an active Indian Air Force base flying combat aircraft including the Su-30MKI, with a separate 12-acre civil enclave operating commercial flights within restricted scheduled hours.

Question 2

How do I check the exact height restriction for a specific plot near Jodhpur airport?

Accepted Answer

Use the NOCAS portal at nocas2.aai.aero, enter the plot's GPS coordinates, and check the Colour Coded Zoning Map grid for the Permissible Top Elevation specific to that exact location.

Question 3

Is the Jodhpur civil enclave being expanded?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a new terminal building was under construction as of the most recent reporting, targeted for completion by the end of 2025, alongside the existing 5,690 square metre terminal.

Question 4

What aircraft are based at Jodhpur Air Force Station?

Accepted Answer

Squadrons operating HAL Dhruv, MiG-27, Mi-17, Su-30MKI, and the newly inducted HAL Prachand light combat helicopter are based here, alongside a battalion of the Garud Commando Force.

Question 5

Why does Jodhpur airport have restricted operating hours?

Accepted Answer

Civil operations run only in agreed morning and afternoon time windows because the base's primary function is military, and it is not operated as a standard 24-hour civil airport facility.

Question 6

What is the general AAI NOC radius rule for aerodromes like Jodhpur?

Accepted Answer

Under the Ministry of Civil Aviation Height Restrictions Rules, 2015, construction within a commonly applied 20 km radius of an aerodrome's Reference Point requires an AAI NOC through the NOCAS system.

Question 7

Do I need a separate Ministry of Defence clearance near Jodhpur?

Accepted Answer

Very likely, given the base's active combat aircraft, Garud Commando presence, and restricted operating hours, all of which point toward a security review layered on top of the standard civil aviation NOC.

Question 8

How close is Jodhpur airport to the city's main tourist areas?

Accepted Answer

Very close. Mehrangarh Fort, the Clock Tower, and the old city sit only 15 to 30 minutes from the airport, meaning parts of this high-value tourist core may fall within the applicable restriction radius.
