Question 1

What is the Jaisalmer Air Funnel Zone and how far is the airport from the city?

Accepted Answer

It covers the height restriction corridor around Jaisalmer Airport, a civil enclave on an Indian Air Force base located roughly 13 to 17 km from the city's Fort, depending on the specific route measured.

Question 2

Is Jaisalmer Airport a civilian or military facility?

Accepted Answer

Both. It operates as a civil enclave, run by the Airports Authority of India, on a base established in 1970 as a forward operating airfield for the Indian Air Force's South Western Air Command.

Question 3

How fast is passenger traffic growing at Jaisalmer Airport?

Accepted Answer

Passenger traffic grew 10.9 percent to over 120,000 in the most recent reporting year, while aircraft movements rose nearly 30 percent, reflecting Jaisalmer's growing pull as a desert tourism destination.

Question 4

What is the exact height formula near Jaisalmer's runway?

Accepted Answer

Permitted height equals 2 percent of the distance from the runway edge along the approach and departure path, a 1:50 slope, in addition to the fixed 45 metre cap within 4 km under the Inner Horizontal Surface.

Question 5

Does Rajasthan impose extra height caps beyond the standard national rules?

Accepted Answer

The state has done so before, fixing a flat 10 metre cap within 200 metres of Jaipur's airport boundary regardless of local zoning. Not specified.

Question 6

Is land near the Pakistan border around Jaisalmer subject to extra restrictions?

Accepted Answer

Yes, generally. Land in the desert belt toward the international border can carry separate defence and security-related restrictions, layered on top of and distinct from the airport's own height funnel zone.

Question 7

Do I need both an AAI NOC and IAF clearance to build near Jaisalmer airport?

Accepted Answer

For land inside or near the funnel and inner surface zones, this is likely, given the base's role as a forward operating airfield near an active international border rather than a purely civilian facility.

Question 8

What happens if a building is constructed near Jaisalmer without a height NOC?

Accepted Answer

Unauthorised construction near a frontline airbase risks demolition orders and denial of occupancy certificates, consistent with enforcement patterns at other Indian airports and the state's own intervention against violations near Jaipur.
