IAF Air Funnel Zones - Lucknow

Lucknow is not a city where height violations stay theoretical. District authorities, the Lucknow Development Authority, and the Lucknow Municipal Corporation jointly agreed to act against 21 buildings found violating the Airport Act near Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, ordering the additional floors of buildings that exceeded 9 metres in the funnel area, some reaching 12 metres, to be demolished. That enforcement history is worth knowing before anyone tells you a height violation here is unlikely to be caught.

Lucknow's dual-aerodrome geography is the detail most brokers skip. CCSIA at Amausi and Bakshi Ka Talab Air Force Station sit only about 25 km apart, and since each aerodrome's mandatory NOC radius extends 20 km, the two zones overlap across a meaningful stretch of territory between them. A plot in that overlap band can fall under both a civilian AAI process tied to CCSIA and a defence-administered process tied to Bakshi Ka Talab at the same time, and clearing one does not automatically clear the other.

Bakshi Ka Talab itself deserves separate attention because, unlike CCSIA, it has no civil enclave and no AAI passenger operations. It is a Central Air Command base hosting No. 35 Squadron, an electronic warfare and air superiority unit, and any construction proposal near it runs entirely through Indian Air Force channels rather than the more familiar civilian NOCAS portal.

Confirm both the applicable Permissible Top Elevation and which aerodrome's clearance process governs a specific survey number with the Lucknow Development Authority and the relevant Air Force or AAI office before signing an agreement.

Distance from each aerodrome, and position relative to each runway's flight path, together decide what a plot can actually carry. Amausi and the Bakshi Ka Talab corridor behave very differently from each other.

CCSIA's own growth trajectory, now the 11th-busiest airport in India by passenger traffic and serving as an IndiGo focus city, keeps commercial pressure high around Amausi, which is precisely why height violations kept appearing there in the first place.

The corridor running from central Lucknow out toward Bakshi Ka Talab along Sitapur Road deserves the closest scrutiny of all, since it is the one stretch where a buyer genuinely cannot assume which aerodrome's rules apply without checking both. A plot that looks safely outside CCSIA's funnel on a simple radius map can still sit inside Bakshi Ka Talab's, and the reverse is equally possible.
