Question 1

What is the Ghaziabad Hindon Air Funnel Zone and why is Hindon significant?

Accepted Answer

It covers the height restriction corridor around Hindon Air Force Station, one of Asia's largest airbases and home to the IAF's C-17 Globemaster and C-130J Super Hercules heavy-airlift fleet, near Loni in Ghaziabad.

Question 2

Does Hindon Air Force Station have a civilian airport?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A civil enclave built at Sikandarpur village in Sahibabad, inaugurated in March 2019 by the Prime Minister, operates under the UDAN Regional Connectivity Scheme, with air traffic control still provided by the Indian Air Force.

Question 3

Which airlines currently operate from Hindon's civil enclave?

Accepted Answer

According to AAI, IndiGo operates routes to Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Varanasi from Hindon, while Star Air operates flights to Kishangarh, Nanded, and Adampur. Not specified.

Question 4

What is the exact height formula near Hindon's runway?

Accepted Answer

Permitted height equals 2 percent of the distance from the runway edge along the approach and departure path, a 1:50 slope, in addition to the fixed 45 metre cap within 4 km under the Inner Horizontal Surface.

Question 5

Can a plot near Ghaziabad fall under both Hindon's and Delhi IGI's funnel zones?

Accepted Answer

Potentially, in western Ghaziabad and near the Noida border, given the combined reach of both aerodromes' 20 km NOC radii. Confirm the applicable Permissible Top Elevation for both through the AAI NOCAS portal.

Question 6

Why was the Hindon civil enclave built in the first place?

Accepted Answer

Slot constraints at Indira Gandhi International Airport prevented additional UDAN scheme flights from operating there, so the government developed a civil enclave at Hindon to give Ghaziabad, Noida, and Delhi NCR direct regional connectivity.

Question 7

Do I need both an AAI NOC and IAF clearance to build near Hindon?

Accepted Answer

For land inside or near the funnel and inner surface zones, this is likely, given Hindon's role hosting strategic airlift aircraft and VIP flight movements alongside its regular civilian passenger operations.

Question 8

What happens if a building is constructed near Hindon without a height NOC?

Accepted Answer

Unauthorised construction near a major military and civil aerodrome risks demolition orders and denial of occupancy certificates, consistent with enforcement patterns seen at other Indian airports where height rules were ignored.
