Question 1

Is Prayagraj Airport a military base or a civil airport?

Accepted Answer

Both. It's IAF-owned and hosts Central Air Command headquarters, while AAI operates the civil terminal for scheduled commercial flights under the IATA code IXD.

Question 2

How far does the height restriction extend from Bamrauli airport?

Accepted Answer

The AAI civil clearance zone follows the airport's colour-coded zoning map, while the separate defence rule bars construction within 100 meters and restricts taller buildings out to 500 meters.

Question 3

Do I need an NOC to build near Prayagraj Airport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and likely two: an AAI NOC for height clearance under the Aircraft Act, plus a defence NOC from local military authority under the Works of Defence Act.

Question 4

What is Central Air Command and why does it matter for land near Bamrauli?

Accepted Answer

It's the IAF command headquartered at Bamrauli, which means the base carries full military installation status alongside its civil airport role, triggering defence-specific construction rules.

Question 5

Is land near Prayagraj Airport safe to buy for construction?

Accepted Answer

Yes, outside the restricted bands, provided both the AAI height clearance and the defence distance rule are checked separately before any building plan.

Question 6

Which distance rule applies, 20 km or 56 km, for Prayagraj Airport?

Accepted Answer

That depends on the airport's instrument rating and CCZM classification; check the specific permissible top elevation for your coordinates directly on AAI's NOCAS portal.

Question 7

Does the Kumbh Mela expansion affect height restrictions near Bamrauli?

Accepted Answer

No. Terminal expansion for Kumbh 2025 raised passenger capacity but didn't change the underlying AAI or defence height restriction rules around the Bamrauli air funnel zone Prayagraj.

Question 8

What happens if construction near Bamrauli lacks a defence NOC?

Accepted Answer

It risks legal action from the military authority controlling the base, independent of any AAI clearance already obtained for the same structure.
